The Annual Christmas Crochet Blanket may become a tradition in your home from passing it around or bringing back memories from years past.
One year, I found myself absolutely broke and maxed out on credit. Christmas was coming and part of the family Christmas is everything to them. The gifts, the turkey and time together. Going back home wasn't an option being empty-handed.
That year, I decided to crochet 3 traditionally looking blankets. Knowing Christmas was important and they decorated, I thought that a blanket to toss on the sofa back would be an idea. It could be packed away each year and then resurface again next Christmas. It's the gift that finds its way back out.
For myself, it was a way to participate with the yarn I had. I decided to redesign the Study of Geometry Blanket we did back in 2021 to be s square version but with a Christmas flare to it.
The texture can lend itself to so many colour possibilities. In the square version, I had to rethink the mathematics to make it work. But you can see by the geometry version, it can be as rich in colour as you want it to be.
The Annual Christmas Blanket is just three colours but you can go outside of the box and use colours that have meaning for you.
We also have a solid Baby Shower Blanket Version that is one colour and it has a slight different repeat but is close to the Christmas Afghan Version.

Annual Christmas Blanket
For me, boredom sets in if the repeat is too easy. So I have 9 rounds that are part of the repeat. With it, the texture just absolutely shines through.

Instructions
The video tutorial will have a different verbal instruction than this. It was my third time doing this and I wanted to simplify the repeating. You can finish the blanket anytime you get a 16th rnd.
Instructions
See diagram attached.
With A, ch 4, sl st to beg ch to form ring.
1st rnd: RS. Ch 3, 2 dc in ring. *Ch 2, 3 dc in ring. Rep from * 2 more times. Join with hdc. Turn.
2nd rnd: WS. Ch 3, 1 dc in same beg sp. *Ch 1, sk next st, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, sk next st. ** (2 dc. Ch 2. 2 dc) in corner sp. Rep from * 2 more times then rep from * to ** once. 2 dc in beg ch sp, hdc to join. Turn.
3rd rnd: RS. Ch 1, 1 sc in same beg sp. *1 sc in each st and sp across to next corner.** (1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in corner sp. Rep from * 2 more times then rep from * to ** once. 1 sc in beg ch sp, hdc to join. Turn.
4th rnd: WS. Using front loops only. Rep 3rd rnd. Break A.
5th rnd: RS. With B, attach to corner sp. Ch 3, 1 dc in same beg sp. *1 dc in each st to corner.** (2 dc. Ch 2. 2 dc) in corner sp. Rep from * 2 more times then rep from * to ** once. 2 dc in beg ch sp, hdc to join. Turn.
6th rnd: WS. Ch 1, 1 sc in same corner sp. 1 tr in beg sp. *1 sc in next st (1 tr in next st, 1 sc in next st) to next corner. ** (1 tr. 1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc. 1 tr) in next corner. Rep from * 2 more times then rep from * to ** once. 1 tr and 1 sc in beg ch sp, hdc to join. Turn. Break B.
7th rnd: RS. With C, attach to same beg corner sp. Rep 5th rnd. Continue with C as you begin the 8th rnd.
Repeat Starts Here
Refer to the diagram for any counts or questions.
Colour C, cherry red has already been started in the 7th rnd. However, when you come back and do the repeats from rnds 8 to 16, you will need to join C, start the colour fresh.
8th rnd: WS. With C, attach to beg corner sp. Ch 3. 2 dc in same beg sp. *(Sk next 2 sts. V-st in next st) to 3rd st before corner.** (3 dc. Ch 2. 3 dc) in next corner. Rep from * 2 more times then rep from * to ** once. 3 dc in beg ch sp, hdc to join. Break C. Turn.
9th rnd: RS. With A, attach to corner sp. Ch 3, 1 dc in same beg sp. *1 dc in next 3 dc sts, ch 1, pc in next ch 2 sp, (ch 2, pc in next ch 2 sp) to last ch 2 sp before corner. Ch 1, 1 dc in last 3 dc before corner.** (2 dc. Ch 2. 2 dc) in next corner sp. Rep from * 2 more times then rep from * to ** once. 2 dc in beg ch sp, hdc to join. Break A. Turn.
Note: The next two rounds are done on the WRONG SIDE. This is important so you don’t end up with textured stitches facing the wrong side of the blanket.
10th rnd: WS. With C, attach to corner sp. Ch 3, 1 dc in same beg sp. *1 dc in next 5 sts, 1 dc in next ch 1 sp, 1 dc in next pc. (2 dc in next ch 2 sp, 1 dc in next pc) last pc, 1 dc in next ch 1 sp, 1 dc in next 5 sts.** (2 dc. Ch 2. 2 dc) in corner sp. Rep from * 2 more times then rep from * to ** once. 2 dc in beg ch sp, hdc to join. Break C. Do not turn. 10 dc, 7 pc, 5 ch 2 sps and 2 ch 1 sps.
11th rnd: WS. With A, attach to corner sp. Ch 3, 1 dc in same beg sp. *(Ch 1, sk next st, 1 dc in next.) to 2nd last st before next corner. Ch 1**, (2 dc. Ch 2. 2 dc) in corner sp. Rep from * 2 more times then rep from * to ** once. 2 dc in beg ch sp, hdc to join. Turn. Break A. 21 dc and 18 ch 1 sps.
12th rnd: RS. With B, attach to corner sp. Ch 1, 1 sc in same beg sp. *1 sc in each st and sp across to next corner.** (1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in corner sp. Rep from * 2 more times then rep from * to ** once. 1 sc in beg ch sp, hdc to join. Turn.
13th rnd: WS. Using front loops only. Rep 12th rnd. Break B.
14th rnd: RS. With C, attach to corner sp. Ch 3, 1 dc in same beg sp. *1 dc in each st to corner.** (2 dc. Ch 2. 2 dc) in corner sp. Rep from * 2 more times then rep from * to ** once. 2 dc in beg ch sp, hdc to join. Break C. Turn.
15th rnd: WS. With B, attach to corner sp. Ch 1, 1 sc in same beg sp. Turn.
16th rnd: RS. Ch 1, 1 sc in same beg sp. *1 sc in each st and sp across to next corner.** (1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in corner sp. Rep from * 2 more times then rep from * to ** once. 1 sc in beg ch sp, hdc to join. Break B. Turn.
Repeat 8th to 16th rnds, 4 more times. You can continue bigger if you desire. Each repeat will add approximately 8" in width across.
You can make this as big as you need but you will need more yarn. You will use the red yarn the most.
Crochet Diagram
The stitching rnds are the same. The colour assignment is the pattern above. Repeating rnds 8 to 16 until you are done. You can save or print this diagram.

I am having a difficult time with this pattern. I'm on round 3 and I can't figure out how many spots (st & sp) that I am supposed to be single-crocheting into, like how many sc should I be putting on each side? I think this blanket may be too advanced for me (I'm a beginner) even with the video tutorial. Can you recommend an easier pattern that I can do with my red, green, and white yarn? Thanks for your time! Sincerely, Melanie Q.C.

The crochet diagram is available to you on this pattern. You can physically count the stitches and spaces to see if that's any help to you. I'm unsure if you are looking for an easier pattern that is just 1 stitch? This is an easy to intermediate level.

I started the Annual Christmas Blanket. It's a little ruffled bit I think it will straighten out when it gets bigger.
