This beginner crochet project is called the Big Granny Square Blanket. If you love the granny square like I do you will fly through this blanket. If you haven't made one yet, you need to add this lovely basic pattern to your repertoire.
It's essentially 1 massive granny square that goes in a complete square. There is a small variation to this square that isn't the way I technically have taught it before. The start and stop are slightly different but works. I think generally the way I start is abnormal. This afghan is more in line with the standards of crochet.
These projects are great for charity donations or to make for someone you love. Or why not just treat yourself. The pattern is showing just one colour but you are the artist, you can do any colours or change colours as often as you wish. Don't limit yourself.
Have fun with this easy pattern. Suitable for beginners. If you need help or struggle with the patterns, my video tutorial is below in both the left and right versions to help you.

Stitch it Forward
Yarnspirations has released their latest Lookbook called Caron, Stitched with Love. The book of free patterns for both knitters and crocheters has one central theme, charity. It focuses on simple projects and some that require a bit of knowledge of crochet. Personally, I love how the Lookbook allows new crocheters to learn new skills but also for the ones who have some skills to go a step further. Not only is this book charity oriented, but it also a great starting point for crocheters and knitters to do something more than practise with stitches. It will allow them to learn, grow and contribute to their own community with the projects they create.
The project above is from this Lookbook. This article is one specific pattern and I have a tutorial that matches it for those who need an extra helping hand with the instructions and skills needed to complete the project.

Can you just fudge in one extra stitch to make it even?

I appreciate the video as I’m a very beginning beginner! I’m disappointed that my blanket has not turned out “square”. What have I done wrong?
