Crochet 7 Day Sampler Afghan Stitch Along

Welcome to the 7 Day Sampler Afghan Stitch Along! I have a project that will motivate you to crochet and complete a nice sized throw in just one week’s time.
I was just playing around with my yarn when I crocheted a 10″ square. I hadn’t done a motif afghan in quite a while, but Michael always challenging me to be better and encouraged me to create more squares. He knows me well, challenge accepted!
These motifs are easy to intermediate in skill level, but Michael’s video tutorials will help you along. Also, each day, you will make 5 identical squares, so if you do them assembly line style, working all 5 squares at the same time, it goes even quicker since you don’t have to keep referring back to the pattern.
The motif have lots of different textures. As you work through each day, you will notice though that the squares are very consistent in design. You will find as you go each day, that you will figure out easily what’s coming next and be able to speed right along the project.
I have completed 2 sizes of the afghan. The full size is 55″ X 66″ and the baby size is 33″ x 44″. The full size uses 5 of each motif, while the baby size uses only 2 of each one. One square will be release each day for 6 days, with the 7th day reserved for joining all the squares and the border. Don’t be afraid, I have a fast and simple joining method you will just love. But if not, feel free to use you favorite join and border to create you own look.
For these projects, I used Red Heart With Love yarn in 3 colors. Don’t feel limited to using these yarns. Bust out your stash yarn and see what you can create!
When you upload your project to The Crochet Crowd Stitch Social Group or Instagram, feel free to tag me so I can see what you have crocheted. Follow me on Instagram @ jeannestein or on Facebook. My designs can also be saved in your Ravelry favorites by following me HERE.

Loved making this sampler. Beautiful patterns… each square. The written pattern with Mikey’s video made the difference. Loved that. I am going to be able to submit an entry. That makes this even more fun , but, showing off my work and being proud of my accomplishment is the best …thank you Jeanne and Mikey
I did it! I managed to make both sizes and submit before the deadline!
Thank you so much for the pattern they are all so beautiful and many thanks for the video tutorials, they were realllllly very helpful. I just love you guys! You’re the best ever!
At first I tried to stitch asking with the videos, I’m an inexperienced crocheter and I was struggling especially with new to me stitches.
After I completed one Saturday Sampler Square I had more confidence in my abilities.
I found it easier to watch the video all the way through then proceeded with stitching the Sunday Sample Square Motif by using the instructions.
I’m truly enjoying crocheting these squares and learning new stitches. Mikey is so fast I had to rewatch parts especially the new to me stitches of the video through YouTube and casted the video to my large screen TV.
Thanks Jeanne for the wonderful designs and thanks Mikey for your continued guidance and laughter.
It’s heartwarming to watch and learn from someone having fun!
I am so loving these squares simple but some new looks, new combos but having done a few , I have been working as well so somewhere I lost a day.
Thank you Jean for giving us a pattern that finally clicks for me to turn a circle to a square. It might be because it happens early in the pattern
I love how quickly each square works up.
I’m glad you are enjoying it. My first time designing with a circle at all, so I just couldn’t go too big. 🙂
Is there a way to get a clear printable version of the pattern without all the pop-up ads
Sure, when you click to each day’s motif, near the top, there is a blue button to click that says, PATTERN, save, print & enjoy, The Crochet Crowd. On any of our pages, you can trust the blue button as the link to the printable pattern.
Just finished up the Wednesday motif and I am so impressed! The patterns are beautiful and smartly designed. Jeanne, your talent for design is nothing short of magic! Mikey, I am SO thankful for your patient and helpful videos. You have made getting back into crochet easy and stress free!! I have loved each crochet along this year, and I’m looking forward to many more.
Thank you so much! It’s been a fun journey.
Is there anyway to slow down the video. Several stitches I have not done before and this first square blew my mind! Also the pattern suggests using Red Heart yet you use the Caron one pound. I am using Red Heart but find it a bit stiff for this. ( I’m a tight crocheter though). I know it’s just preference but what do you think?
Thanks in advance! Looking forward to expanding my crochet repertoire ?
There is a gear in the lower right of the video where you are able to slow down the video. You may need to switch over the YouTube for that option.
This there anyway of getting the square pattern in diagram form?
The diagrams, because I am so amateur in the Adobe Illustrator. They take me about 8 hours to make for each one. It’s a lot of time that would have me delaying filming and new patterns. I’m really short of time. I’m sorry. I cannot manage this on my own to accommodate.
I can’t decide on a 3 color scheme. Will it be extremely difficult if I choose to use more colors? Will it still qualify for the contest if I use more than 3 colors?
Colours are subjective to creative taste. Where Jeanne changes colour is just an option. Colour it anyway way you wish and you can use more than 3 colours. We kept it cost effective to use only 3 colours to maximum ball usage.
Will this pattern look good in Caron cakes?
I don’t think so in this case. I think what makes it good is the clear colour separation. Up to you though.
Thanks for that clarification! I have 3 colors I got for the Waves pattern but didn’t enjoy doing it. This is going to be fun!!!
You bet… Have a good holiday. 🙂
So beautiful! Can’t wait to get started. Dec 26th is so far away! Where will I find patterns if I don’t do fb?
The links to the pattern will be updated here in the article. And if you have subscribed to our YouTube channel, you can get the notice when the videos release each day
This will be my first crochet along and I am using Lion Brand Heartland because I love the colors and texture. Looking forward to starting on the 26th.
I am excited to start this as with each cal/Sal I have learned so much. Thank you!
That sounds fun! Thank you! Can’t wait to start.. I was wondering if I would be considered in the giveaway prizes too, I live in Egypt so I’m not sure if that’s ok.
Thanks again. Have a great day!
Yes, we ship prizes globally.
I would love to participate, but starting on December 26 is too soon after the holidays. Mid-January works better for me. Is there any way to participate, but not until then?
The patterns will be up indefinitely after launch. You can start the pattern when you most likely feel it’s best for you. There’s no rush to start or finish.
Hello! Where can a find de patterns and tutorials? Thnx.
They will begin on Dec 26th. It’s a Stitch Along. 🙂
Do you think Hygge yarn would be too fuzzy for this pattern? I’m concerned that the stitch definition will get lost especially in the center of squares. I’ve been dying to do something with this yarn. Looking for another opinion – what do you think?
I don’t think Hygge is a good choice as it doesn’t show off the textured stitches very well.
I’m ready to get started!! My first grandchild is due in March and this will be cute for matching “Mommy/daughter “ blankies!!!
Sounds awesome and congrats on your new family.
What a super idea of doing mommy and baby blankets!
I’ve never done a CAL or granny square blanket. How difficult will this one be? I’ve done basic granny squares but I usually crochet Afghans side to side.m and border.
Oh this is gorgeous!! I can’t wait to end this virus pandemic with such a beautiful blanket to start the New Year out with!! May we all have a Happy 2021!! I’m getting my yarn and hook ready! Thank you so much…..
and same to you Jerilyn! Happy New Year! 😀
I would like to print the pattern, I read and watch in order to understand what I am doing.
For sure. They will be releasing starting on Dec 26.
Please advise of the skill level.
I think Easy.
Where are you sending the patterns for the ‘7 Day Sampler’.
[email protected]
They begin to roll out on Dec 26 on boxing day.

Hi. Can’t wait to get started, but where are the patterns for the motifs? Thanks in advance.
They start coming out on Dec 26th. This is a preview of what is coming.
This looks like fun! The days between Christmas and New Year’s are always low key in my world, so this is something to look forward to! Will you leave the patterns up, in case I fall behind? My hands don’t always cooperate ?
Absolutely. The patterns are free and will stay up long after this is over. Thank you for your enthusiasm.
Can’t wait to see the new patterns and videos.
Can’t wait. This is gorgeous
