I apologize if this is a duplicate. I clicked post comment and thought my question would appear but it did not. After completing row 1, there is 144 sts. Beginning with row 2 following the chart and working the 36 st repeat four times across the row equals 144 sts. I do not understand why the chart shows extra stitches at the beginning and end of the rows. Also, in the Notes it states "There is an extra stitch at each end of the chart that is not repeated" which to me means those 2 sts are not part of the 36 st repeat pattern, but are still to be done at the beginning and end of the rows, yet that would be 146 sts, not the 144 sts as the pattern indicates. Could you please tell me what I need to do? Thank you so much!

Your description says 'There are mini squares that are put together when you are done. The X’s and O’s are strategically placed within the stitchwork.' But in readying the pattern it's not mini squares but following a graph and it's one big blanket.
