Mitered Modern Granny Afghan

I hope you enjoy this new twist that I'm calling a Mitered Modern Granny Afghan.  I've crocheted this project starting in one corner and building it similar to the corner to corner technique.  You start by building a mitered square, then when you have the preferred width, you continue just working your rows back and forth on one side instead of two.  This crochet blanket becomes completely and easily scale-able to any size you desire.

For this project, I used 5 Caron Chunky Cakes in colorway Trifle.  The finished size is 46" x 60".  You can easily continue on in pattern to either make is wider, longer or both.  The Modern Granny block stitch and the #6 weight yarn makes this a fast and easy project.  You can use any yarn if you prefer to stripe your project to match your decor.

When you upload your project to The Crochet Crowd Stitch Social Group or Instagram, feel free to tag me so I can see what you have crocheted.  Follow me on Instagram @ jeannestein or on Facebook.  My designs can also be saved in your Ravelry favorites by following me HERE.

Nope, I don't cut the yarn. I just go with it. 🙂

Thanks...Now doing edging...unclear on how the edging is done on top of sides where there are 3 double crochet.

I really like the mitered corner!
I would like to make one 30X60.
If I would make two 30X30 squares what process should I use to join them? That way there would be the mitered look on both ends.
    Thanks so much! Sue

That would be a fun look. You could just whip the 2 squares together on a dc row, or jayg on a ch3 round.

      Hi alechia,

To slow down any tutorial on youtube, click on the settings "gear" between CC and YouTube in the bottom right corner, then click on "speed".

      I hope this helps!
