    Mitered Modern Granny Afghan

I hope you enjoy this new twist that I'm calling a Mitered Modern Granny Afghan.  I've crocheted this project starting in one corner and building it similar to the corner to corner technique.  You start by building a mitered square, then when you have the preferred width, you continue just working your rows back and forth on one side instead of two.  This crochet blanket becomes completely and easily scale-able to any size you desire.

For this project, I used 5 Caron Chunky Cakes in colorway Trifle.  The finished size is 46" x 60".  You can easily continue on in pattern to either make is wider, longer or both.  The Modern Granny block stitch and the #6 weight yarn makes this a fast and easy project.  You can use any yarn if you prefer to stripe your project to match your decor.

When you upload your project to The Crochet Crowd Stitch Social Group or Instagram, feel free to tag me so I can see what you have crocheted.  Follow me on Instagram @ jeannestein or on Facebook.  My designs can also be saved in your Ravelry favorites by following me HERE.

Following this pattern but it’s not square? Not sure what I’m doing wrong but the bigger it gets the more lopsided it is. The bottom is 12” and the top is 13 1/2”? Watched the video too. Help!

Sorry to hear you are having trouble. Do you have the same stitch count on each side?

          Hi.

Yes I do. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong but can’t figure out what. I’ve torn it out and retried it like 5 times.

First I thought maybe I wasn’t going into the SC and was making the last DC in the chain 3 so I was really careful and it still happened. The further I go the more it is off in size.

Without seeing it, I can say for sure. Could you email a close up photo to inquiry@thecrochetcrowd.com ?

Yes, I've made this many times with Big Cakes. Any yarn will work.

Thanks for replying, I assume using 3 Big cakes with an I hook will result in a decent size blanket. Can’t wait to see it done.

Confused on edging of mitered modern granny. On the side where stop mitering and begin rows, I have 3 double crochet then chain acting as a double crochet. Mickey says to single crochet in top of double crochet then 2 single crochet in space and 1 single in a.c. row. Instuctions say
2 a.c. ch 1 all the way around???? Help????
