Caron Tea Cakes is a seasonal yarn exclusively available at Michaels. Due to the seasonality assigned to it by Michaels, this yarn comes out but may or may not return the following year. This yarn is known to take a break from the shelves.
What is unique about the yarn is that it appears to be heathered. The shadows in between the twists result from the dye technique. This fibre is dyed black first, then spun before the final colours are applied.
The colouring retains the deep tones with the first dye process.
You will see how yarn is made in the video below. Notice that the yarn is pink or white in the roving process. In the case of Caron Tea Cakes, this fibre is black first before the strands are individually treated to the dyeing process.
