What is Mikey's Personal Stitch Gauge? + Tutorial

Every crocheter has their stitch gauge. Gauge is the unit of measure in which your hands operate to create a finished stitch. Some crocheters are loose, others are tight, and some are of the recommended ball size.

Designers provide a gauge when a crochet pattern is made; it allows crocheters to match the indicator by changing the hook sizes. Mikey has his own notes and list that you can download to put with your crochet materials.

This video discusses the importance of gauges. Gauge is a massive deal for wearables, as the product may not fit if you don't check.

Mikey keeps a running open document for gauge when he plays with a yarn.

Below, the yarn brand is listed, along with a real gauge check completed by Mikey. The yarn brands recommend what the gauge is; most times, Mikey doesn't match the gauge. In the list, if you see a bold line that is italicized, that is what is suggested on the ball band, but it may be different from what he can get out of the same hook size.

It's rare, but both Jeanne and Mikey share the same gauge information for what their hands make coming out of the same hook sizes.
