If you need to determine stitch counts to achieve these sizes, it is solely up to you. Typically, I chain until I reach the desired width or length of the project by measuring it directly against my bed or an established blanket.
If you are working with multiple sets, you have to figure that out by counting the multiples out as you go. For example, say I want a 70" wide afghan and I have multiples of 9 + 2. I count from 1 to 9, as I chain.... over and over. Once I reach the desired length, I add 2 at the end. This way, I can ensure that my multiple counts are correct without worrying about a calculator.

I always find that my chain stretches out as the blanket builds, as a beginner I find it easier to work by chain length rather than inches because of the stretch. would you be able to help me figure out what a chain should be for a blanket for a double/full with a bit of hang using a 11 hook with Bernat Baby Blanket yarn. I make my blanket fairly loose. thank you so much

What size is the one that you have shown? you have also suggested how many balls to buy, for what size is that? i don't want to start and run out of wool because the blanket is too big?
