Base Linked Double Crochet Stitch + Tutorial

The Base Linked Double Crochet Stitch is a dense stitch, whereas all stitches, except the first stitch, are used twice. Using double crochet 2 together stitches that fill in empty spots.

Why would you use this? You may want a weighted blanket. This would not be a great stitch to use in combination with others, as the tension of this stitch isn't the same as that of regular double crochet. More yarn is per square inch and is more compact.

    Abbreviations

    • Ch = Chain
    • Dc = Double Crochet
    • Dc2tog = Double Crochet 2 Together
    • Rep = Repeat
    • St = Stitch

    Instructions

Chain the length you need. The count is not important as there are no stitch multiples.

    TIPS:

    • The beginning of each row has a chain two, and the next stitch is a double crochet; it's equivalent to a double crochet two together.
    • Each stitch, except the first stitch in each row, is always used twice to make the stitches more dense and heavy.
    • If you do not put in the extra double crochet at the end of the row, you will be missing a stitch, and the decrease will start.

1st row: Dc in 3rd ch from hook, (chain 2 you skipped and double crochet is equivalent to dc2tog). *Dc2tog by using the last leg of the last stitch and using the next empty chain. Rep from * across. 1 dc in the last chain that already has the last leg of the dc2tog stitch. Turn.

2nd row: Ch 2. Dc in next st, (equivalent to dc2tog). *Dc2tog by using the last leg of the last stitch and using the next empty stitch. Rep from * across. 1 dc in the last stitch that already has the last leg of the dc2tog stitch. Turn.

Rep the 2nd row until you are satisfied.
