This is the coolest festive afghan I have been in years. The Peppermint Afghan initially inspired me, but this one is mind-blowing. It's so cool. Designed by Julia Madill. This is the 3 Dimensional Star Crochet Blanket Pattern.
What you are looking at is a motif made up of two colours. It's a triangle and one side of the triangle is white while the other two are red. It's how it's flat stitched together to give it the push-up of texture and visual appearance.
It's designed with the perfect yarn for this application, Caron One Pound.

I plan on filming this in the near future. See the bottom of the article for the tutorials, once ready.
Who is Julia Madill?
Julia worked for the Yarnspirations Design Team for a long time before shifting to freelance work. She's still with Yarnspirations on a contractual basis. I remember Julia telling me that once you work in the industry full-time, time management is complicated to keep up the momentum of designing. The pressure to hit knock-out patterns is more complicated to manage as some need more time and thought.
Julia, in 2024, released a book called Every Way with Granny Square. Knowing her level of design, this book is a knock-out for really showing you what crochet is all about.
She mentioned the Study of Series to me and recognized the time investment needed to make those patterns, but time is a luxury.
Julia also design so many great patterns with Yarnspirations, like the Bumble Bee Snuggle Blanket.
Working with Julia is pretty easy, and once my first big pattern went out, it had several errors, and I could not problem-solve myself out of a wet paper bag. Julia went through the pattern about a year after it launched to attack the problem and fix it completely. She taught me that I don't have to do all four sides of a blanket during testing, as each has the same information. So this cut the time down significantly.
Julia, along with several other Yarnspirations Designers, has had a really impactful impact on my life by showing me where I can cut corners but also push myself.
