Yes... You really do use a Broomstick or something like a huge dowel or knitting needle to master this stitch.

It's a bit cumbersome at first but once you get your own style and flow, it gets much easier. Best of all, because the lacy part is such tall, making this goes really quick as well.

Here is a free pattern using this stitch. It's called the Broomstick Scarf, Stole or Shawl. You can decide whatever sizes you most prefer.
