Caron Cotton Cakes is exclusive to Michaels and has changed three times since its conception. Originally, it was a much smaller cake and only available in multi-coloured long stripes.
It left the market for a short time and came back in a large format, as you can see below. The yarn not only changed in size, but the colours were updated, and also new colours in solid colour are available.
This yarn can also be considered seasonal at times as well. It's really up to Michaels.
This is my most favourite yarn to design with as the yarn can rip out really easily if I make mistakes. I love the colours as well. The original prototype of the Study of the Journey Blanket was designed with this yarn before getting shifted to the final yarn of choice.

Myself, the colour combinations used are really perfect representing a beach theme. The beach glass colour is my favourite of them all. For myself, I haven't seen a full ball yet and I am dying for my local Michaels to get this in stock so I can see it and fill up my basket with options.
The yarn is a mix of 60% Cotton and 40% Acrylic. It has a sheen to the yarn. It is also not conventionally spun to give a top quality look. Speaking bluntly, once you see this yarn, you are not going to believe it because it's high end yarn looking for everyday crocheter and knitter prices. Priced at only $4.99 USD. It's so hard to believe as I have spent way more on yarn that looks like this quality.
The yarn will glide through your hands like BUTTAH! It's pleasure in every stroke of the hook. Most Michaels Stores will have this yarn for a limited time. It's for only $4.99. It's expected to fly.
Original Format of Size and Colours

I plan to used my Caron Cotton Cake on the rigid heddle loom. I just warped on a Caron Cake to make my daughter a scarf. It was a challenge, because the acrylic fibers stick together. I know the cotton will be different. So, wish me luck on this project.
