    The concept of crochet rib stitches expanding and contracting in a chevron-wave blanket with Bernat Blanket Patchwork intrigued me. This is the Crochet Parting Ways Blanket pattern.

    The downloadable version has the crochet diagram included and is written with attention to detail and tips.

    Truthfully, Mikey finished this blanket in just three days. It's a quick and easy crochet blanket to follow.

    Materials

    Bernat Blanket Patchwork (300g / 10.5 oz, 201 m / 220 yds)

    • A -Teal Dreams - 6 Balls

    Bernat Blanket (300g / 10.5 oz, 201 m / 220 yds)

    • B - Bright Sage - 1 Ball. Size shown, this ball will get very close to the end if you are not following a gauge. You may need to stop after a 3rd round or get a second ball to complete the 4th round. You will end up with about 20 feet left on the ball. 

    Hook: 8 mm / L/11

    Size: 60” wide x 68” long

    Gauge:10 sc and 8 rows = 4” [10 cm]

    • Beg = Begin(ning) 
    • Ch(s) = Chain(s)
    • Dc = Double Crochet
    • Rem = Remain(ing)
    • Rep = Repeat 
    • RS = Right Side 
    • Sc = Single Crochet
    • Sc2tog = Single Crochet 2 Together
    • Sl st = Slip Stitch
    • St(s) = Stitch(es)
    • Tr = Treble
    • Trbp = Treble Back Post
    • Trfp = Treble Front Post

    Abbreviations for This Special Concept

    • Dc2tog - Double crochet 2 together. 
    • Tr2togbp - Treble Crochet 2 Together using back post. 
    • Tr2togfp - Treble Crochet 2 together using front post. 
    • V-St - (1 dc. Ch 1. 1 dc) in assigned location. 
    • Valley Dec St - Yoh and draw up a loop in next ch or st. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook. Skip next st. Yoh and draw up a loop in next ch or st. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook.
    • Valley fp dec st - [Yoh] twice and draw up a loop around next front post of stitch. [Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice. Skip next st. [Yoh] twice and draw up a loop around next front post of stitch. [Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook.
    • Valley tr dec st - [Yoh] twice and draw up a loop around next back post of stitch. [Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice. Skip next st. [Yoh] twice and draw up a loop around next back post of stitch. [Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook.

    These below are used when one leg of the stitch differs from the others. 

    Beginning of Rows

    • Beg dc2tog - Ch 2. 1 dc in next st - Beginning of row only. 
    • Beg tr2togfp - Ch 2. 1 trfp around next st. - Beginning of row only. 
    • Beg tr2togbp - Ch 2. 1 trbp around next st. Beginning of row only. 

    Ending of Rows

    • End tr2togfp - Double crochet 2 together, and the first leg is a trfp, and the second leg uses double crochet and in the regular stitch location. - End of a row only. 
    • End tr2togbp - Double crochet 2 together, and the first leg is a trbp, and the second leg uses double crochet and in the regular stitch. - End of a row only.

    Instructions

    TIP: Chain a multiple of 24 ch + 2. 

    With A, ch 122. 

    1st row: 1 sc 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. 

    2nd row: RS. Beg dc2tog. 1 dcfp around next st. (1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 trfp around next st) 3 times. V-st in the next st - peak made. 1 trfp around next st. (1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 trfp around next st) 3 times. *Valley dec st. 1 trfp around next st. (1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 trfp around next st) 3 times. V-st in the next st. 1 trfp around next st. (1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 trfp around next st) 3 times. Rep from * across. Dc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn.

    3rd row: WS. Beg tr2togbp. (1 trfp around next 2 sts, 1 trbp around next st) 3 times. 1 trfp around next st. V-st in next ch-1 sp. 1 trfp around next st. (1 trbp around next st, 1 trfp around next 2 sts) 3 times. *Valley tr dec st. (1 trfp around next 2 sts, 1 trbp around next st) 3 times. 1 trfp around next st. V-st in next ch-1 sp. 1 trfp around next st. (1 trbp around next st, 1 trfp around next 2 sts) 3 times. Rep from * across. End tr2togbp over last 2 sts. Turn. 

    4th row: RS. Beg dc2tog. 1 dc in next st. (1 trfp around next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts.) 3 times. V-st in next ch-1 sp.     8th row: RS. Beg dc2tog. 1 trfp around next st. (1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 trfp around next st) 3 times. V-st in next ch-1 sp. (1 trfp around next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts) 3 times. 1 trfp around next st. *Valley Dec St. 1 trfp around next st. (1 dc in next 2 sts, 1 trfp around next st) 3 times. V-st in next ch-1 sp. (1 trfp around next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts) 3 times. 1 trfp around next st. Rep from * across. Dc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn.

    Rep the 3rd to 8th rows until your project reaches the desired length. I finished when all 6 of A balls were used. Fasten off.

    Border

    The main diagram is provided on the printable version.

    Start at the first stitch shown, indicated by the green arrow with the right side facing you. The first round will establish the remaining part of the border. 

    Edging of the Blanket on the Top Edge

    1st rnd: 

    • RS. With B, join to the top of the first st with sl st, ch 1. 2 sc in same st. 1 sc in next 11 sts to the peak. (1 sc. Ch 1. 1 sc) in peak. 1 sc in each st in next 10 sts. *1 sc2tog over the next 3 sts (valley). 1 sc in next 10 sts. (1 sc. Ch 1. 1 sc) in peak. 1 sc in each of the next 10 sts. Rep from * across top edge. 3 sc in last st. 
    • Evenly space sc going down the side to the bottom beginning edge. 
    • 3 sc in first st. 1 sc in next 10 chs. 1 sc2tog over next 3 chs. 1 sc in next 10 chs. *(1 sc. Ch 1. 1 sc) in next ch. 1 sc in next 10 chains. 1 sc2tog over next 3 chs. 1 sc over next 10 chs. Rep from * across. 3 sc in last ch. 
    • Evenly space sc going up the side to the top beginning edge. 
    • 1 sc in same beg st and join with sl st to beg sc.  
    Edging of the Blanket of the Bottom

    2nd to 4th rnds: Single crochet around, placing 3 sc in the corners of the blanket. For the peaks, place (1 sc. ch 1. 1 sc) in ch-1 sp. For the valleys, always skip the sc2tog from the round below and place 1 sc2tog using the stitch before and after to bridge over. Join with sl st to beg sc. Fasten off. You will get close to the end of the B ball.
