Daniel Zondervan, aka Diva Dan, Mikey's better half from The Crochet Crowd, is a master gardener-level yard bird! One of the significant reasons for moving from Ontario to Nova Scotia was the climate and the cost of living.
In high school and university, he worked for a flower shop and garden greenhouse growers. He was the queen pollinator of tomato plants!
Daniel loves the outdoors; if you ask him to stay inside or out, it's always outside.
He's very conscious of the wildlife and/or the lack of it. Our home here in Nova Scotia was mowed with weeds and grass. It was the reason why the house was chosen, so it was a blank slate.
In the first year, Daniel observed ice and snow melting, mainly where the water flows.

The garden is designed to attract wildlife with no pesticides to be used. You plant it, they will come. As we learned in Arizona, trees are the secret to the soil retaining water as they help shade the surrounding area and keep the sun from easily burning off the moisture.
Daniel has a huge collection of Japanese Maple trees and grasses, as they are both his favourite types of items in the garden. He also has various species of evergreens and shrubs. Many of the shrubs produce food for insects to pollinate and turn into fruit for birds and insects afterward.
