Knitters have little pockets where you will carry yarn to create the numbers in the calendar and use the pockets to stuff a unique little item into it. For crocheters, you have wall hangings from traditional things to the modern advent calendar as shown in the picture below.
For those who love Halloween, there's a pattern to be able to do a wall hanging to count down 14 days until Halloween.
