Planning for the Jimmy Beans Wool + The Crochet Crowd Retreat for fall 2025 has begun. BIG QUESTION: How do you get notice of these in advance?
The simple answer is the Jimmy Beans Wool Newsletter. Sign up as Jimmy Beans will release the bookings there before it goes public.
We have done two dedicated crochet retreats with Jimmy Beans Wool. Jimmy Beans controls the show for registration and scheduling. Once we are together, Mikey and his team will run the retreat once on location, with Jimmy Beans' crew working quietly behind the scenes.
In 2023, we visited the Hyatt Regency at Incline Village at Lake Tahoe for the first-ever joint retreat. Of the one hundred students, five groups are formed, with about 20 people per group. With five teachers, the groups cycle through the teachers. The location is a bit harder. The cost of the resort is higher, and the transportation to and from the resort can be expensive. Included with the retreat was a generous amount of swag per student, a shopping spree at Jimmy Beans Wool and course supplies. We had 95 students in all. For 2024, we wanted to do something different.
.
.
In 2024, we went to the Peppermill Casino and Spa in Reno, Nevada. This event had 110 students, but our maximum was usually 100. Usually, people cancel, and we book extra, but in this case, mostly everyone who booked stayed booked.
For this event, again, a generous armful of swag, a shopping spree at Jimmy Beans Wool, course supplies and this year, we did a Sip and Paint workshop for the fun of it. Mostly, none of us knew how to paint, and we did this course as a fun community thing. The laughs were contiguous.
Update
We may be extending this an extra day or two. We have a potential opportunity only for our retreaters that would like to come to Reno earlier and start the party sooner. Stay tuned for details. I usually go a couple days early so I can adjust to the time zone. Stay tuned.
The plan for 2025 is again 100 students. We want to switch things up a bit so the experience isn't the same. Once again, it will be located at the Peppermill Casino and Spa.
We hope you can join us. Retreats can sell out in a matter of minutes. Crocheters on the Jimmy Beans Newsletter will be given the first option before going public.
Frequently Asked Questions
Suggested approximate prices are in USD.
Do you include airfare or transportation to the event?
The quick answer is no. Some people opt to drive in and not use airfare. It's up to you to get yourself to Reno, Nevada.
What is the cost of the event?
The estimated cost of the event is approximately $2,000 to $3,000 per student.
Why is the cost so high?
Students expect to be fed, housed and cared for during the event. Each of the workshops and meeting spaces is closed to the public. Most of the cost is covered by catering itself. Extensive buffets are provided with yummy desserts prepared for us by the resort.
Can I go solo?
We have options for how you travel. We don't put roommates together. But remember, there are two people per room with two double beds, and if you travel solo, you will have a king bedroom for just one person.
Can I bring someone who doesn't crochet but attends the meals?
Yes, we have options for that. A meal plan can be purchased, and it depends on the catering budget set for the event. Those details will be available. Meal plans are approximately $1100 to $1500 per guest.
Can I do a payment plan?
Yes, you can, and there is a gendderous amount of time given to cancel and get a full refund. However, there is a cut-off period as planning, catering, and more are already paid for, and refunds may not be processed.
What is the theme for the projects for 2025?
It will be winter, which is terrific.
Can locals attend this event?
Yes, many locals who will not stay at the resort can sign up. The participant billing address must be within 50 miles of the Peppermill. People who come in from out of town and opt to stay at another hotel, Airbnb, RV or even with a friend don't qualify for the local rate. The rate is discounted as the person will not be staying at the resort and will not have privileges such as keycard access to areas of the hotel, such as the pool. You can be local and stay at the resort for everyone else's regular cost to avoid missing a thing.
What happens if I shop at Jimmy Beans and go over my baggage limit to go home?
Jimmy Beans offers free shipping to retreaters. This includes shipping home swag and course supplies at the end of the retreat.
