A one-row repeating pattern puts your hands in motion for the Red Heart Bitty Stripes Crochet Scarf pattern. It uses just about 50% of a Red Heart Bitty Stripes ball in the colour shown called Sunset Beach.

A skinny scarf where the colour plays its tune. It is very easy to complete and satisfying to get it done.

How do you prevent your shawl from "shrinking" in width? My first two rows measure 36" just fine but as I continue crocheting it begins to get narrower. I am not using hardly any tension on my yarn. Does a person use a bigger hook? I want to use the hook required just to see if it's possible to make it work out.

The chain will automatically shrink by 20% no matter what the pattern is. So if you chain 100, by row two, it will be the width of what 80 chains were.

Take the number of chains you did... x .8. That will give you the number of chains it will actually shrink too. The project will eventually shrink to the level where it stops shrinking.

So if you really wanted 100 chains as the width, add another 20 to compensate for the shrinkage to keep the 100 chains width.
