Remember, the garter stitch is just a term for knitting back and forth without doing anything special. When every row is a knit stitch, it's called a garter stitch.

The tutorial below will demonstrate how to get started. I have also included the tutorial on how to cast off when you are done.

I'm learning to knit along with you and I have a question: how do I keep my edges from rolling up?

Hi Mikey, Thank you for doing a Knit Crowd. I have been knitting and crocheting for over 50 years. My Mum, who was left handed, tried to teach me to knit but being right handed it was a little difficult. So I taught myself to knit and crochet from books. I sure do wish video tutorials were available when I was learning. They make it so much easier. Best of luck to all the new knitters. It is a lot of fun and relaxing.
