It turns out that the problems people had didn't justify changing the packaging for Red Heart Super Saver Ogo. I'll explain.
Yarnspirations noticed people on social media complaining about tangled balls. After years of this, they decided to tackle the problem head-on by creating yarn that they called the O'Go format. It is the same yarn, but it is wrapped differently so there are no tangles.
People who review products online make broad assumptions about the yarn and run their videos without comparing apples to apples and such. The wrapping of the yarn made the yarn look smaller, though the yardage and weight were the same.
This caused a lot of confusion and hate for a product trying to solve problems.
This type of wrapping required the tooling of the yarn wrapping process to be changed to make it. The equipment you see below is the traditional way of wrapping yarn, but the new wrapping format requires different machines.
The change in tooling caused a price increase of fifty cents to one dollar. Of course, people don't want a price increase, and the excessive packaging that was used was required by the retailers, which helped propel even more negativity.
This type of innovation was tried and unfortunately met so terrible reviews, the entire concept was scrapped and the equipment that was changed over considered a waste. Speaking for myself, it seemed Yarnspirations addressed a significant problem but in the end, it's just social media hype for people to complain about.
I'm glad they took the chance as carn cakes back in 2016 was also a tooling change that they took a risk on. Today, Caron Cakes and more brands are done in cake format.
This yarn is on clearance and if you love Red Heart Super Saver, this is a great opportunity to score the remaining ogos that are in stock.
To me, this format would still have been awesome to keep around for Bernat Blanket but what do I know... not much eh! haha

I really liked the O'Go yarn. Made the cute elephant pillow from the pattern that came out when the O'Go yarn was introduced.

I got really “hooked” on the Caron Colorama o’gos with solid color sections. I don’t think I’ve seen that yarn in the old style skeins though… do you think it’s gone forever?
