Create a Crochet Table-Top Christmas Tree for your Christmas decor. It's something you can reuse and is sized perfectly to bring Christmas to someone who may not have the space for a larger ornamental tree. Stitch along begins October 20, 2025.

Designed by Mikey from The Crochet Crowd, this pattern takes a lot of design power to make work, and many lessons were learned along the way. The printable version includes a lot of photography to illustrate the steps more effectively. The downloadable pattern is 16 pages.

You can read this pattern on-screen or purchase a download for a clean, ad-free version. The download includes many more pictures and a 16-page pattern.

The first layer of evergreen crochet took about 4 hours to design, requiring constant ripping out to get it right. This layer took about 4 days to create, and the waiting time allowed the damp-blocking and glitter spray to stiffen up the tree. I wouldn't say it was the easiest design, as the shaping matters the most. Step-by-step pictures make it more visually helpful.

Materials Needed
Caron One Pound, 453.6 g / 16 oz, 742 m/812 yds
- A - Forest Green
- B - White
Hook 4.5 mm / US 7.
If substituting for Red Heart Super Saver, increase the hook size to 5 mm / H/8
Gauge 14 sc and 15 rows = 4” [10 cm]
Size: 9” diameter by 10.5” tall without the ornament.
The Tutorial Sample
I don't like to make the same thing twice. The tutorial sample uses different yarn and a different-size crochet hook.
- Green—Caron Macchiato Cakes, 227 g/ 8 oz, 440 m / 481 yds. The colour is Nourish. About half of a ball is needed.
- White - Bernat Pipsqueak, 100 g / 3.5 oz, 92 m / 101 yds. Most of the ball is needed.
- The hook size was changed to 5 mm / H/8 to compensate for the sizing and match the cone with this yarn choice.

Additional Materials
- Flora Fom Cone - 3.7 inches bottom diameter x 8.9 inches tall. #9 Cone
- Pins - hold layers into position. You could use hot glue at the end of the assembly.
- 50 Assorted Beads - Ranging from 5 mm to 10 mm.
- Tree Topper Ornament - Just one, no bigger than 3.5” tall x 2” - 3” wide.
- Spray Glitter - Rust-Oleum 250 g - Glitter Clear Sealer.
- Hot Glue
- Floral Wire
- Polyfil - Just a golf ball amount of it.
A Different Tree To Crochet
We have also designed other Christmas trees. Check out this Crochet Fir Tree, which has a free tutorial.

Prepare Foam Core

Using a measuring tape, measure in 1.75” increments starting from the top to the base of the cone. There are four increments in total.
I left the plastic on to make it easier to test the layers without catching yarn strands onto the foam.
Note: The layers will be continuous rounds to avoid slip stitching. Follow the pattern using a stitch marker at the end of each round.
Start with the base layers and work up from the bottom. I don’t recommend gluing anything into position on the cone until all pieces are done.

TIPS:
- Be careful, there is no twist when doing the first stitch in the next round.
- This has too many stitches to ensure it will ruffle further into the project. All rings should be the same.

Top Tip
Every time you finish a layer, pin it into position and watch your tree grow.

Assembly
The tree needs to be damp-blocked and shaped.
- Damp the bottom layer and build up to the top.
- Pins hold the layer at the correct marked spot on the cone.
- Use your hand and crochet hook to force the bends of the layer as you place it.
- Do all layers the same way.
- Let the tree air dry before continuing.
- I will use hot glue to form a permanent shape between the cone and any layers that look out of place, especially the top layer, AFTER it is dry from the blocking process.
TIP: In layers 1 to 3, the first round is floating on a chain. If there is too much ruffle in one section, you can slide it to distribute it more evenly.
Prepare the Topper
You can decide which topper you prefer and glue it to the top. Mikey’s topper is flat and will need to stay straight up. It will need to be secured with floral wire.
Make three rotations of the wire affixed to the back of the topper. Twist the wires together to firm them up.

Cover for the Wire
With A, ch 2.
1st rnd: 6 sc in first ch from hook. Do not join.
2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 12 sc.
3rd rnd: *2 sc in the next sc, 1 sc in the next. Fasten off.
Glue to the back of the ornament to cover the wire.

Placing the Ornament
- Lift off the top piece only.
- Push the ornament wire into the foam cone. Stop when you think it’s going to be at the right height.
- Insert the wire through the middle of the snow cap and top piece, through the polyfil and into the foam core.

Final Shaping - November 7th, 2025
- Hot glue the ornament wire to the foam under the top layer.
- Hot-glue the snow cap to the top layer.
- Hot glue the top layer to the foam core.
Examine the shaping and use hot glue if you see anything that bothers you. I didn't hot glue anything else down.
Wrap the ornament with plastic wrap to protect it from the spray glitter.

Take the tree outside and spray it generously with glitter. This will wet the entire Christmas Tree and will dry pretty quickly.

Please bring it back inside and ensure it's on a protective surface from your table top.

- Remove the plastic wrap from the ornament.
- Examine and do final shaping immediately, and let it dry for 24 hours.
Add Beads - November 14, 2025
Add the beads randomly around the tree and keep filling it with beads until you are happy. Use hot glue to hold the beads in position. Stop once you are satisfied with the final look.

Mikey says
I really don't know. Ummm. Let me check with others who have completed the tree to see if they have a different count than I did.
