I’ve been part of YouTube since 2007 and officially started the Crochet Teaching in March 2008. For 2 years until September 2010, it was just a glorified hobby before we turned The Crochet Crowd into what it is today.
Along the way, tutorial hosts have come and gone. Many who start have the ambition of making money which is really tough to do. So the ones passionate for money end up coming and going while the truly passionate people tend to stick around for years.
As a personal policy, I don’t subscribe to other YouTube Hosts so that I am not inspired by their trends to copy their work. It’s easy to follow someone else and be too motivated to want to 1-up them. So I don’t actively subscribe to stay neutral. Reality is that The Crochet Crowd is so busy with our audience we don’t have a lot of time on our hands to be worrying about what others are doing. We learned in year 1 back in 2008 that if you try to duplicate another host, it ends up being a mess and your credibility is ruined. However, in search engines, I do run into these hosts as they are alongside my own videos.
We tend not to visit live shows for behind the scenes for the crafting industry or YouTube productions. We should, we just lack time to get away. So we know just a few people in this list today but others really shine through with amazing teaching skills on YouTube too.
In no particular order, here are some recommendations of other hosts you may enjoy learning from. There are definitely more hosts and other hosts I should be mentioning but there are so many hosts out there, I cannot cover them all. You might have your favourites other than what is below.
I learned of Melanie Ham this year back in January. Her smile captivated me to want to click onto her channel. I really enjoy her personality. She’s got a lot of tips and ideas that span into DIY in other forms. I appreciate her enthusiasm.
She’s a wife, mother and maker. Combining all three to make a successful YouTube channel is difficult. With over 260,000 subscribers, I think she is one of the best of the best. Meet Melanie Ham on YouTube.
I’m a huge Marly Bird fan. I got to meet Marly a few years back as she was hosting Yarn Thing Podcast. Her personality is infectious and she is also the spokesperson of Red Heart Yarns. With Marly, what you see is what you get. It’s one of the best traits about her.
Over the past year, I’ve been watching her build up her YouTube Channel and investing into the necessities needed.
She is the only host on YouTube I connect with personally. Meet Marly Bird on YouTube.
Teresa Richardson, in my opinion, is the God Mother of all Crochet Tutorials that exists on YouTube. She is one of the earliest Tutorial Hosts of Crochet back on YouTube near the conception of YouTube. By the time I came onto YouTube, she was already a giant in inspiring and providing free tutorials.
One of Teresa’s advantages is not wasting time in complex video editing. She’s a ‘get right to the project’ type of host. For those that don’t want to hear the opinions and any yarn play, Teresa has mastered the concept of jumping right in… feet first. Meet Teresa Richardson on YouTube.
Yolanda Soto Lopez
Yolanda is phenomenal with her multi lingual crochet and craft channel on YouTube. In fact, she is close behind The Crochet Crowd for inspiration in teaching. We’ve met Yolanda in a show and she is super nice.
Other than speaking two languages, she has a great approach for teaching practical projects and more. Meet Yolanda Soto Lopez on YouTube.
Sarah-Jayne is wonderful with clear and precise instructions. She is the host of her channel called Bella Coco. She is racking in video views like crazy. She’s delightful. She is from the UK and definitely has her lovely British Accent.
With a wonderful clean and crisp blog and fabulous YouTube Channel. She might be a host you will adore too. Meet Sarah-Jayne on YouTube.
Jayda Crochet In Stitches
Jayda’s introduction is a lot of fun. Clearly a fun sense of humour. She specializes in Amigurumi and practical projects that will delight. Everything from afghans to really cute appliques.
As she says, she’s subscribe to the wacky fun! Meet Jayda on YouTube.
Donna is one of us old timers of being on YouTube for years like we have. She is the creator of Naztazia.com. I needed help back a few years ago and she volunteered some time to help me out. I truly respect her as an artist and person.
One of her major characteristics that I love is that she incorporates her daughter into her social media. She’s a proud mother and you can definitely tell. So while being inspired and learning the steps, there’s a strong comfort, at least with me, that she is human, approachable and real. Meet Donna Wolfe on YouTube.
When I think of Loom Knitting and inspirational hosts, Kristen Mangus is at the tip of my tongue. In person, she is a lot of fun and definitely is the life of the party. I personally know Kristen and watched her grow her channel from scratch. She’s worked really hard and it’s great to see people succeed.
In one sentence about Beth, “She is your next door neighbour!” With Beth, what you see is what you get. She doesn’t go to the trouble of doing elabourate videos and gets right into the meat of the bones of teaching on YouTube. She’s one of the founding crochet teachers on YouTube. She has a way of teaching and engaging that really connects to crocheters. She has a style all to herself and it works wonders.
Knowing Beth in person, big heart and a warm genuine smile. Meet Beth Ham on YouTube.
Bobbie – Crochet Guru
A delightful channel by Bobbie who hosts the Crochet Guru. She has step by step instructions. She is an up and coming host on YouTube that is definitely succeeding. She has new videos every Wednesday to enjoy.
Want to learn crochet from someone other than me? Check out Bobbie and give her videos a spin. Meet Bobbie on YouTube.
Laura is absolutely delightful. She is the host of her channel called HappyBerry. She does a mix of crochet, craft and cooking tutorials. I love her UK accent and she is definitely a fabulous crochet host. She has the perfect mix of entertainment and practical projects. You will see her videos all over the place on YouTube as she is a sensation.
Meet Laura Eccleston on YouTube.
Crystal is the host of Bag-O-Day Crochet with other featured fun projects. Crystal reminds me of the everyday crocheter and speaks like a friend showing you the way. Her projects range from bags and purses to practical use items. She’s got a lot of fans and it’s well deserved too.
Meet Crystal of Bag-O-Day Crochet on YouTube.
YouTube is not complete without Clare of BobWilson123. Clare is delightful and from Australia. I love her projects and her teaching techniques. She’s been around a long time like we have been.
Clare has a really great approach on practical projects. Being in Australia, our winters here in North America are her extreme heat periods and vice versa. Learn from one of the best.
Meet Clare on YouTube.
Nadia – YARNuptopia
Nadia offers high quality video tutorials and I know Crochet Crowders rave about this video channel for help. Nadia doesn’t have a video trailer for her channel but I will show you an example. This year she is doing 365 days of the Granny Square. Truly incredible squares to delight you. I’m astounded on how many interesting versions there are.
Meet Nadia on YouTube
That’s it for now. Enjoy your day and happy learning to you!
