The Crochet Modern Granny Tree Skirt was designed in two sizes to give foundation information so you can crochet it to your size.
I designed this so you can have the starting chain counts and begin the modern granny setup to get the project set up. You can crochet it as big as you need to and stop where you feel it's best.
Materials and Sizing
Red Heart® Super Saver™ 141 g/5 oz, 215 meters/236 yards
- A - Christmas. You may need between 4 - 5 O’Gos for a decent size tree skirt.
This project has the potential for wicked colours.
Use size 5 mm, U.S. H/8 crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge 13 sc and 14 rows = 4” [10 cm]

Crochet 2" Opening Size
Ch 27.
1st row: 1 sc 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in next ch. *1 sc in next 6 ch, (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in next ch. Rep from * twice more. 1 sc in last 2 ch. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 1 dc in same beg st. (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch 2 sp. *Sk 2 sts, [3 dc in next st, sk 2 sts] twice, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch 2 sp. Rep from * twice. 2 dc in last st in row. Turn.
TIP: For the next row, each space, with the exception of the corners, is between 2 dc posts. Visualize the 3 dc as a group and you are placing the sc in the space between the 3 dc groups.
3rd row: Ch 1, 1 sc in same beg st. Ch 1, 1 sc in next sp before next group of 3 dc, ch 3, (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in next ch 3 corner sp. *Ch 3, [1 sc in next sp between 2 groups of 3 dc, ch 3] rep [ ] to next corner. (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in ch 2 corner sp. Rep from * twice. Ch 3, 1 sc next sp after next 3 dc group, ch 1, 1 sc in last st. Turn.
TIP: Rnd 4 is written in a way that you are repeating on all four sides. For rnd 4 only, there is only 1 ch 3 sp on the beginning and ending side. It will get bigger as you repeat this pattern giving more spaces in the future.
4th rnd: Ch 3, 1 dc in same beg st. 3 dc in each ch 3 sp until corner. (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch 2 corner sp. *3 dc in each ch 3 sp until next corner, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch 2 corner sp. Rep from * twice. 3 dc in each ch 3 sp until the last ch 3 sp is filled, 2 dc in last st. Turn.
5th rnd: Ch 1, 1 sc in same beg st. Ch 1, 1 sc in next sp before next group of 3 dc, ch 3, [1 sc in next sp between 2 groups of 3 dc, ch 3] rep [ ] until corner. (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in next ch 3 corner sp. *Ch 3, [1 sc in next sp between 2 groups of 3 dc, ch 3] rep [ ] to next corner. (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in ch 2 corner sp. Rep from * twice. [Ch 3, 1 sc after next 3 dc group] rep [ ] until 2nd last sc in row, ch 1, 1 sc in last st. Turn.
Rep 4th and 5th rnds until you are happy with the size. Finish with 4th row.
