The slip stitching in knitting isn't hard to do, and as a relatively basic knitter as I am, it's achievable. I will put additional tutorials below if knitting is something you are more interested in.

We have made a knit hat and a knit blanket in the past using this type of slip stitching as well. It worked out really nicely. A tutorial is available on this blanket.
We have a hat that is the same type of concept but slightly different. Again, even I could do it, and I am not a strong knitter. It was the Knit On the Go Easy Textured Hat. A tutorial is also available on this hat.
