Please bring back the light and long days of summer, and I feel myself saying in the dead of the blah winter. Living in the north, I want the snow to fall as the sun and moonlight bounce off the snow to brighten the day. By the winter solstice in Nova Scotia, we have only 8.5 hours of light, and by the summer solstice, we have almost 15.5 hours of light. The difference is dramatic.
Stupid Admission
I went to Cuba in the middle of the winter in my early 20s. In the north, it gets dark around 5 to 6 pm at that time of year. So, to my shock, the sun was gone by 6 pm in Cuba! Being from the north, I have always thought that warm weather equals long sunlight days! So, of course, I am the genius that I am.
Short Rows Wobble Neon Crochet Scarf
I wondered what Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo Stripes would look like in Neon Stripe using a stitch called 'short rows'. I used the Chunky Crochet Short Row Scarf below as my guide but I accidentally screwed it up. There was too much yapping when I was with friends.
In not paying attention, I accidentally made the second wedge the same as the one below it and then did it again, by accident, with the next pair. It created the scarf to have a wobble to it and I was loving it. It created the newest pattern called Crochet Short Rows Wobble Scarf.
Wendy also did this same pattern with Red Heart Super Saver in the colour called Brite Stripe. Change the yarn, change the look.
Crochet Diagram
You can see in my diagram below, there are two wedges in the same direction and then the next two are facing the opposite direction.
TIP: Don't let the diagram fool you on how much work this is. This goes pretty fast as you keep eliminating stitches. Once you understand it, you can put the pattern down and follow the flow.
Yarn
Red Heart Jumbo Stripes, 283 g / 10 oz, 440 m / 482 yds.
Neon Stripe - 1 Ball
Project Size: 8” across x 70” long.
5 mm / H/8
Gauge 14 sc and 15 rows = 4” [10 cm]
Abbreviations
Beg = Beginning
Ch = Chain
Rem = Remaining
Rep = Repeat
Sc = Single Crochet
Sc2tog = (Draw up a loop in next 2 sc. Yoh and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
Sk = Skip
St(s) = Stitches
Notes
The pattern is in multiples of 4 chs + 1.
There are two wedges stacked on top of each other that are in the same direction, while the other two wedges above it are facing the opposite direction. This causes the stitches to wobble.
Though there is a lot of instructions, the concept is pretty easy. The 15th and 42nd rows are what keeps the wedges lined up so that two wedges of the same direct stack directly over top of each other.
Instructions
Ch 29.
1st row: (WS). Working into horizontal “bump” at back of each ch, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to end of chain. 28 sc.
Always use the back loops for each single crochet.
2nd row: (RS). Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each sc to last 4 sc. Turn, leaving rem sts unworked. 24 sc.
3rd and alt rows ending 13th row: Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
4th row: As 2nd row. 20 sc.
6th row: As 2nd row. 16 sc.
8th row: As 2nd row. 12 sc.
10th row: As 2nd row. 8 sc.
12th row: As 2nd row. 4 sc.
14th row: Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each of first 4 sc. (Sc2tog, working into side of last st of previous row and back loop only of next st 2 rows below. 1 sc in back loop only of each of next 3 sc) 6 times. Turn. 28 sc. First Wedge complete.
TIP: 15th row is in green on the diagram as it’s this row that keeps the wedge facing the same direction as the wedge below it.
15th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st across. Turn. 28 sc.
16th to 28th rows: Rep 2nd to 14th rows once more.
Second wedge complete.
TIP: 29th row will switch the wedge to face the opposite direction from the two wedges below.
29th row to 41st rows: Rep 2nd to 14th rows once.
Third wedge complete.
TIP: 42nd row is in green on the diagram as it’s this row that keeps the wedge facing the same direction as the wedge below it.
42nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st across. Turn. 28 sc.
43rd to 55th rows: Rep 2nd to 14th rows once.
Fourth wedge complete.
Rep from 2nd to 55th rows - 7 times more. Repeat 2 to 14 once more.
You can also repeat as many times you prefer. I went long enough to use as much yarn as possible without playing yarn chicken.

Neon Red Heart Crochet Scarf
I have stitch night every Wednesday here at home. This picture is taken around 4 pm. The days are getting longer, and yarn like Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo Stripes jumps off the ball with eye-blasting colour.
It gives me hope for the longer days coming ahead.
For kicks, I created a fun scarf pattern obsessed with this yarn. This yarn has a uniqueness that I didn't know about. Usually, yarn goes from Colour 1 to 5... then jumps again from Colour 1 to 5. This yarn is not like that.
This yarn goes from 1 to 5... 5 back to 1... 1 to 5 again. The neon green and black are the colour 1 and 5 in this setup. So the ball and finished projects look amazing.
Wendy also changed the yarn to neon using Red Heart Super Saver called Neon Stripe. Change the yarn, change the look.
The pattern is a 4-row repeating pattern after we get started. The scarf is 74" long by 8.5" wide. It just needs one ball.

6th row: Ch 1, 1 sc in first 2 dc. 1 sc in next ch-1 sp. 1 sc in next dc3tog spec. *2 sc in next ch-2 sp, 1 sc in next dc3tog spec. Rep from * across. 1 sc in last ch-1 sp. 1 sc in last 2 dc. Turn. 31 sc.

Crochet Graphic Scarf
My graphic scarf was never intended to be a pattern. There are not too many projects that I crochet for me.
In hosting an 80's party, I decided to look at my yarn collection, and I saw I had discontinued Caron Simply Soft colours in neon colours. I thought, hmmm, 80's! Neon! Absolutely.
I used graphghan concept of just deciding on each row if I would make one colour bigger by reducing the other colour. In some rows, I kept the colours in the same position to create straight lines up as well.
When you wear this, the colour appears to jump across the scarf and match in a funky way on the other side.
The fringe is made up of 3 - 12" strands put together. The scarf begins with Chain 23 but you can decide to make it wider if you wanted. It's your call.
This is free form as the decisions are made on the fly without a pattern. The video below will share my concept and show some steps I did.
