This easy 2-row repeating pattern recreates the 80s with fun neon colours separated by black sections to make the colours pop. This uses Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo yarn in the Neon Stripe colour.
This would be an excellent pattern for beginners of crochet. The yarn will yield itself to be a much longer scarf if you prefer, but I was trying to make this a comfortable, shorter scarf for kids and beyond.
I have provided beginner tutorials with instructions below. The scarf will naturally scroll from side to side but we will block it with damp blocking or steaming at the end.
Instructions
The yarn has a colour strategy. Start with a fresh section of the black yarn in the ball.
Make a slip knot and put it onto one of the needles.
Cast on 33 stitches using the method below.
To keep perfect edges, the first stitch of every row will be a Slip Stitch Purl-Wise called sl1wyf, which is a Slip Stitch with one stitch with yarn in front.
1st row: Sl1wyf, then knit stitch across the row.
2nd row: You will have 1 slip stitch for the first stitch, knit stitch for the next 2. Then purl stitch until 3 is left on the needle. Knit stitch the final 3 stitches.
Rep 1st and 2nd row until approximately 45 inches long. End with 2nd row.
Cast off: Cast off using knit stitch method.
