    Crochet Seriously Snuggly Blanket

The Crochet Seriously Snuggly Crochet Blanket pattern is the alpine crochet stitch.

This is a 4-row repeat that creates the texture. Knowing that Bernat Velvet Plus is hard to film, halfway through the tutorial, I restarted again using Red Heart Super Saver Ombre to demonstrate it a second time. This allows people to see it can be done with this yarn but also the second demonstration is more clear on where the stitches go.

The Crochet Ultra Thick Plush Basket Weave Blanket has more detail than you can actually see clearly in the pattern. It's framed.

    Tutorial

The tutorial starts with demonstrating Bernat Velvet Plus but then midway through switches to Red Heart Super Saver Ombre to go over it again with regular yarn so you can see the stitches.

I am a beginner crocheted and from just reading the pattern it wasn’t clear to me that when you get to the first iteration of row 3 that you actually skip a dc in the row below with each trfp and I put one round every dc. Can you put me right as to how to read the pattern correctly? It was only when I looked at the video on slow motion did I notice I had done it incorrectly.
Also the pattern instructions for a trfp it says to insert the hook from left to right. Isn’t it the other way round?

You are right about the TRFP. Should say do from Right to Left (if you are right handed) but is correct if you are left-handed.

3rd row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). *1 trfp around dc 2 rows below. 1 dc in next sc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.

The tops of stitches as you complete row 3 are counted as 1 st. So the first stitch is a Ch 3 (DC), next one is the next post 2 rows below which rests in front of the 2nd sc stitch. Then the next st is a dc in the next sc.

I'm having trouble keeping the ends of the velvet yarn from coming undone. Do you have any tips?

I would tie the ends together. Then with about a 4 or 5-inch tail, weave in the tail with a tapestry need 3 times back and forth.
