For beginner level crocheters, the Crochet Bernat Velvet Stripes Blanket. The blanket is just single crochet back and forth. Changing the yarn every 6 rows for the effect that you see. Will this work good of you add another yarn to the crushed velvet yarn & crochet both together?

you could very easily add another yarn but keep in mind you may need to change your hook size where the 2 yarns together would cause it to be a bit bulkier.
