Lesson: S Loom Cast On
S Looms are used for larger projects such as afghans or any project where the width of the project is important. For example, this S Loom can make up 5 – 6 foot wide knit throw.
The loom is in an S configuration so it remains compact to your lap. For afghans, you don’t go all the way around the pegs in a continuous circle. If you did go all the way around in a continuous circle, you would end up with a tube and not a flat panel.
There are a few brands of S Looms on the market. Kristen recommends the KB Super Afghan Looms over other brands. These looms are built to last verses other cheaper looms that have way too much flex to the loom that can freak you out once you get a decent size afghan on the loom.
In this tutorial, you will learn how to cast on using a crochet hook. Speaking from first hand experience, for these types of looms I cannot emphasize enough that this is the better method over other looming casting on techniques. Again, you can decide what you must prefer.
