The Study of Ombre Crochet Afghan is the Summer 2022 Stitch Along.
I designed this in August 2021 and are two designs in one. One failed concept and then pushed what I could to finish the design.
The centrepiece circle was supposed to be part of a snowflake afghan and I lost my way during the design and it turned out terrible. It wasn’t looking like a snowflake at all. Having the diagram and instructions typed out, I kept this in the archive with a future project in mind.
I pulled the original design back out and wondered what would happen if I did it in Red Heart Super Saver Ombre and let the colours work themselves out. I tested it and thought the centre was spectacular. I continued them to square off the circle and continued my study.

Red heart super saver ombre in light blue is no longer available. What color can be used instead?
I used purple and other colours. I don’t know what other colours are you mixing with this to give a suggestion that would reflect the other colours.
I’m having trouble with round 39, do I work in front of the dc or behind…
Behind the dc. The tutorial is linked with the article just in case you need to see that as well.
I absolutely love this design! I’ve only been crocheting for about 3 years and I have learned SO MUCH from you. I would love to turn the finished square into a rectangle and I was wondering if you have any ideas on how I might go about doing that. Thank you so much for the work that you do. Your videos are a delight to watch. Much love.
I’m sorry, I haven’t taken the time to research and develop the concept to make that happen for this design. I don’t have any solid details without pulling a few days offline to figure out the math and test it. I’m sorry.
I am enjoying this study of ombré project so much!! Thank you so much Mikey for sharing your talents with us and teaching us more and more about this great craft. You are my favorite teacher.

I am enjoying this project but have a question about the size after week 2. The pattern suggests 18”. Mine is 16.5”. After week 1 I was just under 10” which was the size suggested in the pattern. Could there be a typo in the pattern? I have seen multiple posts on Facebook where the crocheters are also coming out to less than the 18”.
I have to say I love your designs with all the textures and stitch combinations. Thank you fot sharing your creativity.
It’s my own tension but if it’s still sitting flat, just continue along.
I can NOT find RHO in light blue anywhere. Would Scuba work, or what could I substitute with?
I used scuba in the tutorial. It works just fine.
what colors are you using in the tutorial videos?
I think I have been saying i as I go on the tutorials but I will have to record them separately in a list. I am using whatever I can find on the shelf.
I just can’t wait to get started on week 2.
I know you created this for Ombre, but how do you think it would look in caron cakes?
I don’t really know as I haven’t done it to have first-hand experiences to have a personal testimony over.
I think the color changes will be more abrupt and will be changing in the middle of a round, which I don’t care for. If you’re fine with it, or want to color control, I think Caron Cakes would make a wonderful vibrant project.
I’ve signed-up last week, not received a confirmation email that it took.
I’m sorry about that. I don’t have access to Yarnspirations to check the system. Hopefully, you can reach out to them.
I’ve tried several times to sign up but it doesn’t seem to be working.
If you can reach out to Yarnspirations. They can check that for you.
It didn’t work when I was using Firefox for a browser but it did work with Google Chrome.
Thank you for this information.
I am in love with this new project, got all the yarn required from Joannes (miraculosly} supposedly signed up, and nothing! Got no pattern or reply from the “sign up”. What is wrong? Does this mean many of us will not be able to go with the group?
I’m looking forward to this one !! I love Ombré yarn !! Now to figure out my color combos……….Thank you !!
Funniest thing is I love the RHSS Ombre and Have a few tucked away.. I’ll see what I have and what I need still..?
