Our guest designer, Donna Bondy, has mathematically figured out how to add 20" to your Study of Texture Afghan pattern. Donna has also reformulated the pattern to be a rectangle. This information will work for both.

Original Study of Texture Patterns
The Extra Credit and An Extension Pattern to add on. Choose either of the styles of blankets below and scroll on down to get the extra additional rounds to make them bigger.
Instructions
Rectangle - Repeats to Make Blanket Bigger. Approximately 78 inches long by 68 inches wide.
Square - Repeats to make Blanket Bzigger. Approximately 72” square.
To begin, do not do round 55 on either sample and continue onwards with the instructions below using the original pattern. Choose either the square or rectangular version.
Repeat the following rnds:
Repeat Rounds 32 – 42
Repeat Rounds 25 – 31
Repeat Rounds 20 – 23
Repeat Round 42
Repeat Rounds 13 – 19
Repeat Rounds 6 – 12
Repeat Rounds 2 – 5
Last rnd: Ch 1, sc around post of joining hdc, picot, 2 sc in same sp as first sc, picot, (sc in next 2 st, picot) rep ( ) around with (sc, picot, 2 sc, picot) in corners. Join with a sl st to first sc, fasten off.
This will start to take you back through the Afghan. So, to complete this extra credit, do not use Rnd 55 on the original patterns. Just continue with this downloadable PDF to go back through the pattern.
This is mathematically figured out, so we don't know a ball count to do this.

There is no link to the original pattern.

I have just added a link for you. Sorry, I was thinking people were just looking for the extension version, not the original. I have just updated it as your suggestion makes a lot of sense.
Robyn says
Your the best!!!!!
Judy says
Where is the extension version
Jeanne says
It's the second blue button that says, Crochet Study of Texture Extra Credit Pattern.

I lost my printout of the directions for the first 8 sections of the original blanket and cannot find them to reprint, all I can find is this extra credit and the shawl. Is this no longer available? Doing the extra credit to expand the size is pointless if I can't do the first part.
Mikey says
are you just looking for the original pattern? I don't get what the 8 sections of the original blanket means. Are you you just talking the main pattern itself? Here is a link to the original pattern. https://thecrochetcrowd.com/crochet-summer-stitch-along-the-study-of-texture/

Bonnie Ratcliff says
I'm confused... how do we make this rectangular? It looks like the rectangle starts in the middle from the beginning but I don't see that in Donna's directions.
Kimberly says
Am I correct that we just repeat the rows in reverse for the extended version ?
Iva Hodgedon says
I couldn't find the rectangular directions in the PDF. Could you please tell me where I can find them? Thanks
debbie smith says
Did anyone ever get a PDF for the rectangular? If so, could you share, please
Marina King says
There wasn't a PDF for the rectangular that I remember, there were written instructions, I have been trying to remember where I saw them.
